Do I really need a dedicated server?   PDF  Print  E-mail
Many people have asked this question to themselves. What are the benefits of having a dedicated server? This article attempts to answer some of the questions you may have about needing a dedicated server package.

The first issue that should be addressed is processor time. On a shared hosting plan you could be splitting the CPU cycles and memory with many other people. If your website is database driven, high traffic or runs a lot of scripting you may want to look into a dedicated server. The difference in the performance of your code could be staggering, leading to more sales and more click-throughs on your site. It really can make the difference between a site with no traffic and a site with thousands of hits an hour.

The next thing to think about is security. On a shared server, there could be thousands of available pages of code to the world wide web. What are the chances that one of those pages/scripts has a security vunerablity? pretty good. This should be taken into careful consideration, especially if you are thinking about taking payments online. With a dedicated server the only security concerns with coding are your own. It's much easier to plan and manage an e-commerce site with confidence in your server.

One of the largest benefits though of having a dedicated server is system customization. The server is tailored to your needs and your needs alone. If there is a certain package or software module needed by your site or a uncommon configuration of certain softwares then a dedicated server is probably what you need. A dedicated server allows for complete control of the way your site and web presence is percieved.

I hope this article has cleared some of your questions and if not contact me. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you have.
